Code Clubs at CCL

Casey Cardinia Libraries offers a range of Code Clubs, from beginner and upwards. Click below to find out more information about each club.

Note: sessions do not run during school holidays

These sessions are ideal for children who have completed some Scratch coding already.

Children in this group will have already completed Scratch module one projects and be ready to extend their Scratch coding skills.

Sessions will be held online via Zoom on Thursday afternoons during term time,.

During the Zoom session we will work through a Scratch project all together (children will log into their Scratch accounts at home).

Every Monday we will email you the Zoom invitation, and every Friday after we have completed the project we will send you the project notes.

These sessions will run monthly and are aimed at confident Scratch coders or children ready to extend their skills.

Two weeks before the session we will email all children a project prompt. Children will use this to come up with their own project. Prompts will be things like code a platform game with multiple levels, code a project about the library, code a project that is a racing game.

At the monthly zoom catchup we will workshop project prompt ideas, share projects the children have been working on, look at bugs that might be occurring and possible ways to fix them.

This will be a collaborative group and we will look to build children’s confidence in sharing projects and encouraging all ideas.

This group is for children new to Python coding. This is a great group for children who may be proficient at Scratch coding and are looking to extend their coding skills using a new coding platform.

Children need to be proficient in reading and spelling as the Python is a written coding language not block coding like Scratch.

Children should be aged 8 and over to participate in this group.

Runs every Friday at 4pm.

Extend the Python coding skills you developed in our Python program. These sessions will feature more complex projects, and some will be quite lengthy so we will be working at a faster pace.

Python…Next Steps is suitable for those who have completed a full term of Python, and are experienced in troubleshooting their own code.

Prerequisite: Have completed one full term of Python. 8 years +

Runs  every Monday at 4pm.

Learn HTML & CSS to make your own websites, games and animations. HTML & CSS describe and structure webpages. They are text based languages (similar to Python), so these sessions are suitable to those who are comfortable typing code.

Reading and spelling needed, along with attention to detail.

Suitable for children 8 years +

This class runs in person at Bunjil Place Library on Wednesdays at 4pm.
